I said before that it seems that life is all about relationships. However there is one relationship that most people forget about that is the one that matters most: the relationship between you and God. This one has to be mended because it is broken. It is broken because of sin which is a common but deadly serious problem and which like a disease eats away at our souls (we don’t just have a body that dies but a soul that is eternal). Sin is not one single action but a state-of-mind, of heart. Sin is the default condition of being born in a sinful world.

God and sin don’t mix (another way of saying God is holy). So the relationship is broken and needs to be fixed. God doesn’t need this to happen, He doesn’t need anything, you need it. But because He cares for you He has done everything needed to mend this relationship. What exactly? He came (Jesus being born, why we celebrate Christmas) and died. He died in your place. Basically taking your punishment, your sin, your guilt . His death brings you new life by believing.

Sin has sold you to an abusive father called the devil. Jesus’ death was the cost of buying you back to a caring father, God, who you don’t know yet but can get to know. It was an expensive price to pay, not a million pounds but death, but Jesus did it because you are worth it to Him. He didn’t stay dead. He came back to life three days after the shameful death so it’s a celebration time for true believers (Easter).
