Families are breaking up for several reasons:
- Commitment is played down, which as well as with sinful desires to do whatever pleases us, brings cravings for a different partner, break ups and lack of trust.
- the media glamorises promiscuity (a string of sexual partners one after the other, basically sleeping around) and affairs. It also doesn’t discourage divorce and separation. On top of this sexual desires are given too much importance and friendship and support are played down.
- God’s law and Christian values to do with marriage have been ignored.
- Arguments, jealousy and selfish ambition are often no longer seen as wrong.
- Addiction to pornography, drink, work, gambling and drugs is everywhere and it makes people take their focus away from their family as their first priority.
- Couples often don’t get together expecting it to work out.
